Members of the Lake Andes Fire Department came to Andes Central School to present fire prevention / safety tips to elementary students on Friday, October 4. Their presentations were in anticipation of national fire prevention week which is October 7 - 12. The national theme which the firemen focused on was, 'Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape.' They asked students to go home and speak with their families about developing an escape plan if the unfortunate incident of a fire in their home occurs. Steps included: knowing two ways out of any room they're in, staying low under the smoke as they leave the house and establishing a meeting place where all family members are to gather and be accounted for.
This annual visit to Andes Central by the Lake Andes firemen are truly appreciated and we believe that their presentations are effective and help our students to understand the importance of fire safety and prevention.
A huge thank you to the Lake Andes Fire Department for taking the time to come to Andes Central School and talking to our elementary students!
